Caption: Norham Castle which stands guard over one of the main crossing points on the lower Tweed. A motte and bailey castle built in 1121 and the principle stronghold of the Bishops of Durham in the Scottish Borders, it was once the most dangerous place in England. It was taken and badly damaged prior to the Battle of Flodden in 1514.
